Healthier Options For 2022

Whenever we enter a new year, there are usually two groups of people. One group treats it like any other day and goes about living their lives just like they had the day before. The other group attempts to change their habits and makes resolutions to become healthier and better versions of themselves. Personally, I’m a mix of both. I’m in bed by 10 p.m. on New Year’s Eve because sleep is life, but I still tend to wake up feeling refreshed and in search of the “new me.”

If there’s anything the past couple of years have taught us, it’s that our health and well-being should never be taken for granted. If you are part of the second group and want healthier options to kickstart 2022, we’ve compiled a list to help you make better choices. Good luck with the newer and healthier you!

Plantology

Whoever said you have to give up the foods you love in order to eat vegan has never tried Plantology! Founded by Griselda Munoz in 2021, this restaurant is dedicated to providing delicious food that’s locally sourced whenever possible. On top of that, all of their packaging is made from plants and is entirely compostable. For the few items that aren’t, they are sure to recycle.

The vibe at Plantology is to eat well and feel good, while their mission is to fuel healthy bodies and sustain a healthy planet. At his local spot, you can enjoy menu items like honey butter chicken sandwiches, jackfruit flautas, dragonfruit lemonade, and even cookies and cream milkshakes.

Pharm Table

At Pharm Table, they are dedicated to re-inventing ingredients to produce flavorful, diverse, and inspiring food. They also remove dairy, wheat, refined sugar, and processed foods from their recipes to create an anti-inflammatory way of cooking real food. As well all know, inflammation is the root cause of a lot of health problems people experience nowadays and if you can eat delicious food that also minimizes inflammation, it’s basically a win-win!

HASH Vegan Eats

The message here is to heal and spread healing. HASH Vegan Eats is a spirit-free lounge hoping to change the way we all socialize. As a matter of fact, HASH is actually partaking in a Dry January Challenge and if you also happen to be participating, you can receive 10% off your order. Their food menu consists of items like waffles, sandwiches, and soups and salads.

Miss Chickpea’s Bakeshop

Because I have the biggest sweet tooth ever, you know I had to include some sweets in the list! Starting to live a healthier lifestyle is all about balance anyway. At Miss Chickpea’s, you’ll find homemade sweets made using the best ingredients, mostly organic, 100% vegan, and sometimes gluten-free! In my humble opinion, their gluten-free pop tarts are to die for! Most of Miss Chickpea’s items can be found in coffee shops around San Antonio, or you can place an order for pickup using the link in their bio.

Cava

Cava is brand new to San Antonio and although it’s a chain restaurant, I thought it was important to include as it’s not only fast, but good Mediterranean! Started by three friends with a Greek background, this is the perfect spot to stop for lunch after a morning walk. You can build yourself a salad or a greens and grains bowl, just don’t forget to add a warm pita!

Hours: All locations in San Antonio are open from 10:45 a.m.–10 p.m.

The Good Kind

The Good Kind makes fresh comfort food—meals that are good for your body and good for the environment. Chef and owner, Tim McDiarmid, grew up in rural Canada and was raised growing her own food. To Tim, “farm to table” is the core of what The Good Kind provides to the lovely people of San Antonio. Come here if you’re looking for clean, nourishing, and sustainable food.
